Italian Tuition Online

Introduction

Welcome to the Italian Tuition Online page! Here you will find a summary of our scheme for personal Italian Tuition over the Internet, using tools such as voice chat, real-time shared exercises, shared workbooks, and email, either instead of or as a supplement to the more 'usual' face-to-face lessons. If you want to learn or improve your Italian, at any level from beginner to advanced, then keep reading!

Why Online Tuition?

Primarily, these courses are aimed at people who would like to learn or improve their Italian, but who are unable to attend lessons regularly, perhaps because they travel regularly, perhaps because they have a busy schedule, or even simply because there are no local courses or teachers.

Instead of having to travel to the college or tutor's house, attend the lesson, then return, and commit to being able to do this the same time every week, the Internet provides an alternative solution. With the use of shared workbooks and voice chat now possible on most home or office computers, students can simply connect to the Internet and have the lesson, from wherever they are.

Of course, we still offer face-to-face lessons, which are held in Hitchin. So whether you would like online lessons, face-to-face lessons, or a mixture of the two, please contact us.

Online Communication

The main tool for the online lesson is Microsoft Netmeeting, which is a popular, widely available, user-friendly, and free(!) package. Using Netmeeting, the teacher and student have constant voice contact, and work on exercises together using Microsoft Word, which is shared in real-time. At the end of each lesson, the student has a clear, comprehensive record of the lesson in the form of the Word Document, which takes the place of the exercise book in a face-to-face lesson.

In addition, listening exercises, sounds, pictures, and other documents can all be shared during the lesson using Netmeeting!

Lesson Summary

Lessons cover any level from complete beginner up to A-level, and courses can be as long or short as you require to achieve your aims. Each lesson is typically 1 hour long, and is based on selected textbooks, combined with language tapes and CDs. Homework is set at the end of each session and discussed in the following lesson. The speed of progression is entirely determined by the student. If you wish to take exams, then these can also be booked for you.

Prices

Lessons are priced individually, with prices starting from £22.50 (approximately US$35 / €35) per lesson. These prices are for lessons tailored to your individual requirements, and include lesson preparation, preparation of all exercises, scanned documents and audio recordings to be used in the lesson, and preparation and assessment of any homework set for the period between lessons.
